A key element of the gameplay of Diablo Immortal, inherited from the broader Diablo series, concerns players being able to choose from a range of diverse classes with differing combat capabilities and skill sets. The Basics of Diablo Immortal
Diablo Immortal is a recently released free-to-play action-RPG designed primarily for mobile devices. Immortal does feature a PC build for players who’d rather not play on mobile, with crossplay capabilities between the two platforms being possible. Immortal was originally announced at E3 2018, where long-term fans of the Diablo franchise were quite vocal in their disappointment. Having said this, millions of players signed up for the game’s pre-release, showing plenty of remaining desire for the title.
The Diablo franchise originated back in 1996. While the Diablo games have always been typified as dungeon-crawler RPGs, none focus on multiplayer quite like Immortal, which takes on a faster pace and a more arcade-style gameplay look than most Diablo games. Diablo Immortal also contains loot boxes that have prevented Diablo Immortal from releasing in some regions.
The Wizard Class in Diablo Immortal - Strengths
The Wizard class within Diablo Immortal plays as the purest form of spell caster, of all the title’s six playable character classes. A ranged class, the Wizard role is defined by dealing massive amounts of damage through area of effect and crowd control abilities, utilizing spell combos and strategy to decimate the minions of hell on the battlefield.
Being a ranged class at its core, the Wizard has an overt strength in its ability to deal significant damage from the safety of afar. Alternatively, a player can build their Wizard in a more close-quarters oriented manner, allowing for increased effectiveness up close as opposed to at a distance.
In terms of traversal ability, the Wizard has an integral ability called Teleport, allowing them to close or increase gaps between enemies rapidly with extreme effectiveness. As previously mentioned, the diverse range of AoE attacks at the Wizard’s disposal allows for grouping enemies, cutting off escape routes, and of course inflicting huge amounts of damage, in PvE or even PvP situations.
The Wizard Class in Diablo Immortal - Weaknesses
Despite their strengths, the Wizard class of course has its own weaknesses and limitations that need to be considered. The primary downside to Wizard gameplay is the long cooldowns that accompany the powerful abilities at a Wizard’s disposal.
It is imperative that these cooldowns are strategically managed, with a Wizard very easily being overwhelmed should they be caught by a powerful enemy force during a cooldown cycle, like many other classes in Diablo Immortal. If playing as a classic ranged Wizard, these cooldowns are even more potentially devastating. With the reduced focus on strength and a resultant low health pool, the unintended closing of distance between a Wizard and any enemies can quickly lead to death.
Some Wizard abilities are also skillshot based, meaning they require precise aim to deal any competent damage. In PvP situations, exemplary accuracy and ability management is required to get any form of tangible advantage, meaning the skill requirement for the class is quite high. Considering just how effective the Wizard class can be should these weaknesses be taken into account, it is clear that the Wizard is a very sensible choice of class for players within Diablo Immortal.
