Relic has announced the release of the Company of Heroes 3 Console Edition. This is the first time a game in the Company of Heroes series will be released for consoles, as previous games have been PC exclusives, with a port released for mobile in 2020. In the console version of Company of Heroes 3, the game will have a revamped control scheme to allow for maximum precision. The user interface is also completely revamped, using intuitive button layouts to create a good gaming experience on consoles.
The second Company of Heroes 3 trailer shows 4 minutes of gameplay highlighting some features and showing how the game will look on consoles. In the game, players will be able to explore a dynamic turn-based map campaign across Italy, and the video shows the beginning of the mission in the Italian commune of Salerno. The trailer explains the changes in controls and user interface and introduces new features such as the tactical pause: this way the player will be able to pause the gameplay, execute commands, and get back to action to see the results in real-time. Another feature presented in the trailer is the radial command menu, which is used to increase the line of sight and identify hidden enemies. Previously Company of Heroes 3 got a trailer highlighting other features such as the available factions and game modes.
The debut of Company of Heroes 3 on consoles is good news for players who have never had contact with the iconic franchise. The first Company of Heroes is often listed as one of the best World War II games, with innovative mechanics for the time. Now Relic Entertainment and Sega bring the exciting gameplay, cinematic feel, and dramatic storylines to a potentially larger audience, who will have the chance to relive historical events with the strategic component common to franchises such as Total War, Age of Empires, and Civilization.
Company of Heroes 3 releases February 23, 2023 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
